cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour

cup colored sugar
Preparation
Beat granulated sugar, butter, shortening, vanilla and eggs in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
Heat oven to 400°. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick on well-floured surface. Cut with 2 1/2-inch star-shaped cookie cutter. On each cookie, cut slit between 2 points to just past the center; spread to make 1/4-inch opening. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with colored sugar.
Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until very light brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Fit cookies together in pairs as shown below.
